Once We Were Cowgirls

A cold front blows in while we are out riding. The wind whips up the South Texas dust, so we head back to the stables. She pulls the saddle from her brown gelding, and says, “Come have supper with me.”

Back at her apartment she takes a thick shoulder roast from her refrigerator, browns it in a cast iron Dutch oven, adds Worcestershire sauce, mushroom soup, and onions. Soon, a savory aroma fills the room, and we anticipate eating roast with spicy gravy.
