Fractured Fairy Tale of a Hospital Visit in Bangkok

I accompany my wife to the hospital. She hasn’t been sleeping. I haven’t been sleeping, but I know the cause of that. I follow her from clinic to clinic, floor to floor, handing her a form here, an insurance card there. She’s battered with information, but there seems to be no physical cause for her insomnia, so we schlep our disbelief and remaining hope to the end of a long hallway and slip into the Behavior Clinic. This is where they keep the psychiatrists. Psychiatrists have a simple view of the world: it’s chemical. The doctor my wife sees doesn’t care why she can’t sleep; he knows several combinations of drugs that will have her out like Sleeping Beauty. I’m starting to feel like the eighth dwarf, but I’m going to cast myself as the prince.
