Beto Junction Truckstop

Finished with breakfast at Beto Junction, hemmed in by truckers eating massive plates of food, I watched a bird dog, thin from running, disappear behind a giant fiberglass bison in front of the Wyatt Earp Inn.

In the truck again, heading west, I saw prairie dogs, yucca and sage, a bull bellowing atop a tall dung heap.

The bird dog. Why didn't I rise until it had appeared again on the other side?
