Work in Progress

Dad’s memorial service. My cousin, whom I haven’t seen in years, tells me I look exactly the same as he remembers dad. I already know that. The family physiology runs true no matter what else we do. My grandfather, the farmer, had the dimple in the chin and the droopy right eyelid. My dad, the corporate executive, did as well. I, the educator, am well and truly stamped from the same mold. Yet to come for me, I suppose, are the creases in my dad’s cheeks from the oxygen lines.
