Neighborhood Watching . . .

. . . the problem when new neighbors move in across the street is that you do not wish to be rude and intrude nor so shy as to deny contact with them but when you observe they have a son in a wheelchair and you live up a flight of steps you do nothing for a while except check any changes they make which might affect the appearance of their property and indeed your own property especially when they announce an extension presumably to accommodate the needs of their son but after that so much happens so quickly with first the ambulance then the funeral of the little boy (to which we are not invited) until one morning you spot their "for sale" notice and you decide to wait for new neighbors to move in but this time promise to be more sociable and to cross the street albeit without wishing to be rude and intrude nor so shy as to deny contact . . .

she sits by the curtain
seeing everything
feeling nothing
