The Home Left Behind

I visit my parent’s house in Chennai after being away in Singapore for two years. I am surprised at the changes in the surroundings. The lovely Eucalyptus tree, whose fragrance I loved, is gone, as is the forest fire tree that was flaming red in summer. The Frangipani tree, which I can almost touch from my bedroom window is no longer there. "They've been removed to accommodate a new building," I'm told. I shut the windows, unable to stand the sounds of construction.
