Chilmark Rhododendron

They say that dead people receive more flowers than the living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude. Turn down the Billy Idol and roll down the windows, for just five minutes. Pull up alongside the wind-battered general store where not long ago, she bought her milk in bottles and your diapers in cloth. But it wasn’t long ago . . . because the space-time continuum is as inscrutable as the essence of that sole Rhododendron.

Embracing the rain, but shrouding itself in a boundary before the rain becomes a sting. Shouting its discourse to lilacs, periwinkles, and violets of the world. Then retreating into evening shade the instant before the secret gets out.

passing clouds
some gray,
some with silver linings
