Another Monday
this life
ruled feint

My oncologist and I are fighting a cool rearguard action against the relentless advance of the Crab. However, she tells me on Tuesday that 2015 might well be a year of grace. By order of the goddess Enzolutomide, conjured up by big pharma at my eleventh hour.

So it's worth phoning my chiropodist for a more serviceable pair of feet, my dentist to extend the longevity of my false teeth, my wine merchant for another crate of Zinfandel, and my editor to postpone the memorial volume yet again.

Surprised by joy
in happy vacancy
I wash the car

How do you expect me to take life seriously, I ask the gods (or kismet or whatever)? This life, unrolled by calendars and clocks, while sun and moon pull the tides in and out, beating upon the promenade outside my window.

Idling in my easy chair
the elusive stuff
that time is made of
