Dear Hearts

A year ago we walked arm in arm, the moon lighting long-stemmed white tulips in a neighbor's yard. You talked about surrender to the Unknown while I tried to tether the conversation to the here and now.

Today your email addressed to a dozen or so “Dear Hearts” where you say you have nearly stopped eating and soon, perhaps, food will not be necessary. But first Israel is calling, another layer of surrender . . . to be totally able to trust in the Unseen is your only desire. Would we like to help send you there? You who are literally without money and soon without friends.

All those stars
nameless . . .
a mother calls her
30-year old son
