Eyes Half Open

—For the heroes, the survivors and the victims in West Africa.

Spirit beings all about. White shrouds rustling. Sweeping from cot to cot. Bug-eyed. Blue-haired. With smooth, white hands. Made of light.

Something lurks among them. Dark. Unformed but obscuring the soft glow. An eclipse. Only partial. Urging toward fullness.

Half blink. A radiant spirit draws near. Extending a hand, the shadow recedes.
