Just another day

I wake up. Rush to the bathroom. Throw up in the toilet bowl. Splash my blood shot eyes. Pour a glass of water. Drop in two tablets of Aspirin. Drink them in a gulp. Press my fingers against my skull. Feel the veins throbbing under the skin. Wait for the neon blobs to stop flickering in front of my eyes.

Drag a razor against my cheek. Pull on a fresh shirt. Put on dark shades. Bear the bus ride to work. Sign on a few sheets of paper. Type out some business queries. Drink far too many cups of coffee. Check the phone for the calls I didn't miss. Chew on a stale sandwich.

Stop by the small bar on the way back. Swig quick shots of charcoal filtered whiskey. Reach home. Roll a weed joint. Revel in the long first puff. Watch the heavy smoke slowly curl around the lamp.

wading a cloud . . .
the road forks away
from the gulls
