After the Wind Storm

Fallen on all the calles of Taos: dead branches, snapped-off crowns, accidental stick figures, limbs that have danced their dance and are now still. Do these fallen ones pray for rebirth, beg for another few years of rising tree sap, storm frolic and night-rustlings? Or will they settle for this peaceful limb graveyard, wood endlessly silent, scattered across the mesa eventually forming humus and loam to feed new cottonwood and scrub oak?
