Wildflowering

Soon after moving in, they tore out their yard, only to be greeted for weeks by nothing but bare earth, and neighbors whispering over back fences.

One shy bloom appears, and then another until the front yard, side yard, and back yard erupts with wildflowers. California Poppies, Tidy-Tips, Elegant Clarkia . . . a meadow in the middle of the urban center of Los Angeles.

No dog in the yard, just a multitude of birds, bees, butterflies, and neighbors bearing cookies and cupcakes.
