St. Davids

I had stopped here on my way up the Pembrokeshire coast to Fishguard, and had spent all day exploring the Cathedral and the ruins of the Bishops Palace, learning about popes, saints and Vikings, and admiring the solidity of twelfth century architecture. Now, as often before, nightfall caught me on the road with no place to stay. From a house in the middle of a field, a light beckoned. The farmer was suspicious, asking if anyone else was with me, but finally allowed me to sleep in his barn, just the once, as long as I was gone by morning.
