In Memoriam
Brian Zimmer 1957-2014

photoBrian Zimmer was born in Neosho, Missouri, USA, and spent most of his life in Kettering, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton. He lived for several years in Detroit and Canada before settling in St. Louis two years ago. For 20 years, Zimmer worked for the Dayton Metro Library System, a career which began with him delivering books to the housebound. During his time in Detroit, he worked as a volunteer at Hospice. After surgery for an aortic aneurysm, Zimmer was unable to work, but found great solace in poetry. His tanka was published worldwide in journals such as Modern English Tanka, Gusts, red lights, Atlas Poetica, and, more recently, Skylark.

A kind and dedicated mentor to fellow poets, Zimmer was a keen exponent of lesser known forms such as the fibonacci and cinquain. His essay entitled "The Tanka Sequence & Tanka-Prose as Introduction to Tanka" was published in Skylark 1:1, summer 2013.
