Entering without Knocking

“died of natural causes”
no address given

Exiting my home I turn a key; a key that divides me from the homeless passing by. But with that click I have entered their home. Yes, it’s another home for me too. But here, I tread our commonality in every way. We share the sun and rain, the cold and heat, the wind and stars, the new and old. And we share a more important thread of humanness, of suffering, hunger, and desire. The few I may help usually pass on. Some seasons, though, a new friend is made and another homeless person becomes less so.
