Love like this

She punches his residence number and sobs in relief when no one answers her call.

It is as if the Buddha himself has given her a sign.

Four years ago Dorji said he couldn’t marry her. His family didn’t approve. The pain and anger have now dulled into a hollow sadness. What she wants to say to him is a whisper trapped in her head. 'Our/your daughter starts school in the new year.’

Next time, she tells herself. I’ll call him next time.
