Waking Up in San Francisco

Where there is only me and I’m looking at high clouds pink-tinted underneath and moving over the city.

clouds dragging worries
out of me into the sky

thinning my disquiet
sweeping violet turpentine wash
dark scratches of low hills

this is my morning
watch when I decipher dreams

My eye scutters across the room, over furniture, out through the window glass;

Dodges and darts among the clusters of leaves of the Clematis in bloom outside;

Flies through a thin mist up to the silhouette skyline of Telegraph Hill and into the bright and diffused sun.

what’s best about dreams
how they dissipate in the light
too thin to be remembered
