Golden Years

In Celtic frenzy she plays the fiddle. Bare feet brush the grass, bracelets clank, friends applaud, return to their 9-5’s, collect points or pensions, glittering coins. She raises a daughter by the skin of her teeth. They write, they paint, they read and dream. Wear thrift shop clothes, eat beans, travel light. Always morning, never night. Now fiddle strings broken, eyes watery and filmed, she knits by the fire, a cat at her side.
