For Brian

Whitey-wing, the thrush with one white wing feather that hangs around the house, is the first to use the new bird bath. Given to us by a friend, made by a local potter who passed away a few years ago, it had a crack in which we fixed and it now holds water again.

While typing a eulogy for my brother, a strange cat walks through the bedroom door.

Earlier, a touch of rainbow over the headland. When I go back outside a vast bow stretches across the sky, and above it another. The card from a friend with two imaginary birds. Two shells I picked up on the beach, one a slightly darker metallic blue-grey than the other.
