Ink on Silk

Back then, the future was half a lifetime away.

my head on your chest, remembering
days when we picnicked in the blond grass,
free of tomorrow and yesterday cares
as only lovers are, and I drank wine
from your lips and you sipped the same from mine.
Time flows by like water, but still we kiss—
cupped in our hands, the promise of this:
of two old trees by a cool spring . . .

Two journals, two rings, three decades apart.

we tap the birch
for a taste of spring . . .
later-life love
