In The Sunset District

The young couple fly back to the City after the honeymoon, eager to return home to their parkside apartment, warm and welcoming in evening fog. They hop into the first available cab at the airport. The driver’s shoulders slump a little when he hears her voice but he doesn’t turn around. What luck: it’s the man she had left for the one now sitting beside her. Freeway, bridges, familiar white skyline . . . the ride drags on in silence. At their building, the driver watches them struggle with the luggage. The new husband tips generously.
