Memorial Day

This afternoon, cloudy with rain, cradles sound the way a mother cradles her child. I open the window to accept the wind and hear, finally, one lone, loon call as it flies over the lake. It is as if you were calling out to me once again only to say hello, then goodbye—If only we could reverse time to reach out for you, living, again . . .

my future grave
under a deep, green shade—
memorial day
