Nine years ago I bought a Norfolk Pine growing in a plastic pot to decorate for a Christmas tree. After it served this purpose, I transplanted the tropical conifer beside my patio. Last winter here in South Texas we had an astounding eight-inch snow.  I wrapped the tree for protection, but everywhere the plastic touched it, the needles burned.  Snow-covered boughs remained unharmed. After the freeze, I took garden shears, and trimmed away the damaged ends.
