“Inspiration Point”: a small enclave of swings, trees, birdhouses, benches, all surrounded by three large railroad-cross-tie crosses, all of it dedicated to T_____ R______, a young man killed at age 33 in 1992, cause of death not specified.

Fished this morning from 6 to 9 and caught only small ones. We nap at mid-day, when the heat is 99 degrees. Later, we try again. I slip onto my hook a devil’s horse lure and get a fairly quick strike. But alas, nothing more.

Relaxing in a cove. Iron red ground; cows bawling. A few dozen yards from a near shore, a dead wind-toppled pine, amid the tangled vines and leaves, protruding ten feet or so into the lake shallows.
