Mother said you’d disapprove, said I was too young for proms. But you winked. Smiled. Took a picture of me. Blue strapless tulle with a wrist corsage of teeny white roses. I felt like Grace Kelly.

Now here I am in this frozen muck and mother made me wear that hideous black skirt the one that makes me look fat as a cow my coat’s too short I’m freezing it’s Christmas vacation and yesterday in front of everyone Mother kept saying what a terrible daughter I was to even think about going to parties.
