Tipsy

It’s nineteen eighty-one and the place smells of perfume and alcohol. Tipsy, I am in a Pittsburgh disco nightclub. I get up and move towards the bathroom. This dude blocks my path. “Excuse me,” I say, probably spraying him with saliva as I speak. He gives me a funny look.

“Excuse me,” I say again. His lips move. Anger. He looks angry. I move to push him out of the way. He does the same.

After shoving the mirror, I feel my face flushing. Shame overwhelms me as my eyes sweep around the room with me hoping no one had seen my embarrassment.
