Stopping, we rest for a few minutes, share a tree stump as a seat, and then turn toward home.

Editor's Note: The author has chosen an unconventional approach here: splitting up his two-part tanka. While the resultant piece may resemble a haibun, he uses this particular format to echo "the disorientation that serious illness brings to our lives."
