Two Lies and a Truth

A friend asks how I feel about writing confessional pieces. Embarrassed? Perhaps . . . But does he really think I bought the Loeb Library edition of the Aeneid because its dust jacket matched my pocketbook? Or that I stashed the Cosmo Girls’ Horoscope in the laundry hamper before my date came to pick me up? And how could he believe I once hid under the bed in the guest room to get away from my husband?

How could anyone credit those stories? No one says “pocketbook” anymore, and besides it’s the Cosmopolitan Bedside Astrologer. And why would I hide under the bed for two hours until my husband left for work and come out sneezing, covered with dust bunnies?
