Windrush

~ for a generation

It conjures thoughts of a sweet calypso rhythm slowly easing into an unmistakable reggae beat. Taste buds are piqued by a daydreamed aroma of soul food wafting in from Mama's kitchen . . . jerk chicken, rice 'n' peas.

Don't worry, she soothes. There is hope in her sing-song voice. A warm welcome awaits her children on those distant shores. What mother doesn't have a capacious heart and sunshine aplenty in her smile?

Note: The “Windrush generation” comprises thousands of people from across the Caribbean who were brought to the United Kingdom to fill a labor shortage after World War II. You can read about Windrush here.
