Hard to Settle

I know you like my kitchen with all its crevices and pockets of warmth. But we wouldn’t get on. I can’t cope with your habit of eating a little bit of this, devouring too much of that, or the hole you gnawed in the wall under the sink.

Surely you’ll settle if I leave you here on Mount Ainslie, away from the crash and tumble of pots and pans. It’s quieter amongst wild grass, the smell of eucalypts and pine in the breeze.

that rustle…
a rush of leaves
or wings?

You scurry into a clump of ferns.
