At that awkward juncture between night & day, I wander in the distant land of dreams, buoyant, flying a foot above ground. With my bones and muscles groaning under the weight of decades, I'm reluctant to pull myself back to earth. As morning sun creeps into the window, I wake and sniff the air, tentative at first. To make sure there’s no fire burning down this drought-stricken state, no tsunami, no hurricane or hundred-year flood turning hillsides into moving mud. No billion dollar wall separating me from my neighbors. Not yet. But so much is gone, in this land where we're all invasive species.
