The photo club meeting begins with the usual patter . . .

. . . those flowers in your yard are lovely . . . wish I'd brought my tripod . . .

I drift in and out. And last night, drifting in and out of sleep, I heard someone yelling downstairs.

. . . I thought the late frost would kill them . . .

Footsteps and then a door slamming. Is this a dream?

. . . it’s been such a long winter . . .

No, not a dream . . . in the morning, her bed not slept in, our cat curled into her pillow . . .

. . . Bob placed one of his flower shots in Top Photos . . .

In the bathroom, her toilet kit and meds gone . . .

. . . the flower show is on this weekend in Toronto . . .

At breakfast, my other daughter says: “Sorry about last night, Dad. I caught her shooting up again.”

. . . let’s all go and have a best-of-show contest . . .

“It was strike three on the drugs, so I told her she had to get out,” she adds.

. . . shall we go as a group? Is everyone free saturday?

What now? Call her friends? Look for her at the mall?
