The Iceberg

A holiday of our dreams, we called it—a trip to Shimla, in the great Himalayan range of mountains. Fifteen years down the line, I wonder what was so special about that trip. Surely for me, everything boiled down to that moment on the mountain slope, just outside our cottage, as I stood there, aware of a deep stillness—the twilight hour, a quiet merging of identities. I was lost in the vastness of the moment.

is it possible
I ask myself
to feel
the depth of the sky
from within

If one flap of a butterfly can cause an avalanche far, far away . . . yes, stirrings of life from the outside can shake me up on the inside too.

And then, and then what about . . .

a world
within the moon
of my dreams
I elbow my way through
ink-smudged apparitions
