Instead of a Gold Watch

For retirement, colleagues at NASA give me an 8” Schmidt with XLT and GoTo. It’s after lunch and I’m saying “stardust” to the goodbye cake, amused at how coffee reminds me of midnight. I can’t wait to see Messiers softening into something well past medias res, rising beyond cirrus in the west. . . . For the moment, daydreaming that M-theory boughs’ paltry 3rd-dimension folds me into nautical curls of dark matter is enough. Even the moon is a lunatic with dark thoughts. I move the tripod under forsythia and practice declinations with the afternoon.
