Tension Tamers

for Lisa & Andy

You remember that little spill a few days ago talking about my fatigue, and kryptonite, gin & tonics, cherry blossoms, sloths, and the shackles of my mind? Well yesterday I was fatigued once again, then I had something I thought was an a-fib flutter in my chest and all hell broke loose in my mind. After that an anxiety attack, and finally, a visit to the cardiologist!

“Your heart sounds great,” he said, then referenced my mind and continued, “it is not uncommon to have recurring anxiety like this after what you went through.”

it is more
between the ears
than in the chest
figuring out
my "new normal"

it took me
years to realise
that my changed life
grows more crazy
every day

I'll meet you in the post-traumatic-stress boat and we'll sail somewhere safe and warm . . . where hopefully our partners have lit the fire on the beach and made some good soup . . .

broth simmering
with zucchini squash
and herbs
our tension tamers
and their soothing words
