Resurrection

in memory of A.E

His presence was like Louisiana magnolias, settling in a place where magnolias are unfamiliar, where they struggle to survive. In a desert town, imagine a blending of saguaro and magnolia. Add the uneven sway of the center fighting the boundary of the cactus to birth its blossom; the spikes inadequate to protect the magnolia from bruising. His poetry was the story of his struggle.

My lasting memory of him: arms reaching to heaven in the still, perfumed air.
