September's blue sky feels freshly laundered, a few white clouds hung up to dry in sun after yesterday's rain. Foliage of trees on the opposing bank of the pond doubled by water's mirror. Heavy-footed geese curve long necks to tear grass from the sloping bank, having led their adolescent young out of summer's nesting woods. Flapping their wings, rustling tail feathers, they waddle down to the mossy water, rows of goslings following, one by one, with scarcely a splash.
